Description
  • The head is wedge-shaped proportional to its body.
  • Its teeth meet in a scissors bite.
  • Pomeranians have almond shaped eyes that are dark and medium in size.
  • They have small, erect ears on the top of their head.
  • The tail is feathered and lies straight, flat on its back.
  • Poms have a thick double coat.

Temperament

Pomeranian dogs are proud, curious, alert, lively, intelligent, and loyal.  It has a docile temper and affectionate nature.  It gets a along with other dogs and household animals easily.  They are also good watch dogs to have.  Poms are quick picky with their food.  These dogs need to know that you are the owner or else it will be very demanding.  If the Pomeranian feels that it is the leader instead of the owner, it may contract the Small Dog Syndrome.  Moreover, it will be a good companion if it is taught that it is not the leader, the owner is.  It is better suited for elderly people than young children due to the fact that children might not be able to show that the pom is to obey.

Care

Pomeranians are able to live apartments.  They are very active indoor and will be fine even without a yard.  Also, make sure they do not overheat in hot weather.  Poms need to be walked daily, even though play enables them to get their exercise it is better to walk them because of their primal instinct.  If they are not walked, it may lead to some behavioral problems.  They will enjoy strolling around a large, safe, and fenced area.  These dogs need to be brushed frequently since they have a long, double coat.  Brushing it is time-consuming, but it is easy.  Their undercoat sheds once or twice a year; they shed a lot.  Make sure to clean he eyes and ears daily, dry shampoo when needed, and take it for dental checkups.

Health Problems

Poms are susceptible to dislocated paella, slipped stifle, heart problems, eye infections, skin irritations, tooth decay, and early loss.  They should be gie dry dog feed or crunchy milk bones daily for their teeth and gum.  Newborn poms are very small and fragile and r usually delivered by cesarean section.  The dog may have bald spots here and there when it reaches old age.
